چکیده

The motion of an object within a viscous fluid and in the vicinity soft surface induces hydrodynamic stress field that deforms latter, thus modifying boundary conditions flow. This results elastohydrodynamic (EHD) interactions experienced by particle. Here, we derive soft-lubrication model, order to compute all forces torque applied on rigid sphere is free translate rotate near elastic wall. We focus limit small deformations with respect fluid-gap thickness, perform perturbation analysis dimensionless compliance. response computed framework linear elasticity, for planar substrates limiting cases thick thin layers. EHD are also obtained analytically using Lorentz reciprocal theorem.

Dynamic Interaction between a Rigid Body and an Elastic Ring

Dynamic interaction between two bodies, where one is significantly more flexible than the other, is common (e.g. rotor-casing contact). This paper presents a linear model for simulating contact between rigid and flexible bodies. The motion between contacts is predicted by modal superposition, using separate models for the two components. During contact, the models are coupled via a linear conta...

Force-induced elastic matrix-mediated interactions in the presence of a rigid wall.

We consider a soft elastic matrix that contains particulate inclusions and is bounded by a rigid wall, e.g., the substrate. Such a situation arises in elastic composite materials. They may serve as soft actuators when forces are imposed on or induced between the embedded particles. We investigate how the presence of the rigid wall affects the interactions between the inclusions. First, for no-s...

Indentation of a rigid sphere into an elastic substrate with surface tension and adhesion.

The surface tension of compliant materials such as gels provides resistance to deformation in addition to and sometimes surpassing that owing to elasticity. This paper studies how surface tension changes the contact mechanics of a small hard sphere indenting a soft elastic substrate. Previous studies have examined the special case where the external load is zero, so contact is driven by adhesio...

Soft lubrication.

We consider some basic principles of fluid-induced lubrication at soft interfaces. In particular, we quantify how a soft substrate changes the geometry of and the forces between surfaces sliding past each other. By considering the model problem of a symmetric nonconforming contact moving tangentially to a thin elastic layer, we determine the normal force in the small and large deflection limit,...

An Axisymmetric Torsion Problem of an Elastic Layer on a Rigid Circular Base

A solution is presented to a doubly mixed boundary value problem of the torsion of an elastic layer, partially resting on a rigid circular base by a circular rigid punch attached to its surface. This problem is reduced to a system of dual integral equations using the Boussinesq stress functions and the Hankel integral transforms. With the help of the Gegenbauer expansion formula of the Bessel f...
